This book is an excellent resource and should be on the desk of every Japanese office worker in international business. Especially if you occasionally find yourself spending hours in trying to compose a business email in English, this book will help you and save time.
This book lays out the ground work staring with a short column about how to write a business email in English. Then it moves more into detail in giving more than 1000 email messages in a variety of business situations. What makes the book really useful is the (bold-faced) key words it provides. They are fundamental phrases of email writing which come handy in business situations such as when replying and responding to inquiries effectively.
Overall, this is an invaluable tool for anyone who takes seriously writing business emails in English. It is effective in its approach, easy to read and follow, and is highly recommended. As a friend to several Japanese business people in the Bay Area, I will give them this book to help them become more familiar with how to write effective email messages in English.

数ある「英文ビジネスメール本」の中でも、本当に実際のビジネスの現場で使い回しが効く文例が掲載されている非常に実用的な本である。
本書は10章構成である。それぞれの章で5つから7つのビジネスシチュエーションが取り上げられている。文例の数は1000をゆうに超える。
例えば、1章の「話を展開する語句」では、話の流れをつなぎ、メールの内容を展開するのに効果的な表現がふんだんに紹介されている。この章は、メールの本題の焦点を提示したり、内容をまとめたり、情報を付加したりする際にとても参考になる。また、付録3のページには、季節感を感じさせる語句をメールに書き添えたい場合に、時候の挨拶に代わりに使える短文が、春夏秋冬別に集められていてとても便利だ。
巻末の索引も充実しており、必要な文例に簡単に辿り着ける作りになっている。文例ハンドブックの価値はココにありといった感じだ。英文のビジネスメールを書くときには、どうしても適当なサンプルが少ないので、この本で似たような文例を探して、表現の幅を広げるようにするのが良いかもしれない。それほど値段も高くないので、1冊持っていても損は無い。できればCD-ROM版か何かで、コンピューター上で検索できるようにしてくれたら良いのだが。。。
