Part 1 of 4 of a No Continues Run with Mayu Uzaka, in Lightning Legend: Daigo no Daibouken, on PS1. Lightning Legend is one of the lesser known works of Komani from the 90s, but still is IMO one hell of an enjoyable romp. Released in December 1996 on PS1 in Japan only, it's their very first 3D Fighting Game. Very influenced fighting engine and gameplay-wise by Namco's smash hits of the time Soul Edge (Soul Blade on PS1) and Tekken 2, as well with some King of Fighters and Street Fighter 2 sprinkled in (the character I play with in this run, Mayu, makes this obvious, borrowing her Special Moves from Ryu -Shoryuken-, Chun-Li -Flurry of Kicks-, and Terry Bogard -Burning Knuckle-), it still exudes its own unique charm, thanks to its anime style-characters, and its RPG-like Item gathering system. Indeed, the Item Collection is the big selling point of the game. When playing Story Mode (and later, when you'll unlock it, Collection Mode), each time you win a round against an opponent, you gain an Item. The item you get vary depending on the way you defeat him/her; there are 208 items in total to gather. Those items are very interesting in that they allow you to see various tidbits around the game like concept artworks, characters' profiles, storyline's chronology, and authors' notes, when inspecting them close in the Item Viewer. The game is also rifle with other unlockables, like several secret characters, stages, modes and alternate outfits. You'll spent quite a while of time ...
