認知症の増加にともなって、精神科病院への入院が急増して現在６万人以上となっている。しかし、長期入院で生活能力の低下や、身体拘束、自尊心が傷つき症状が改善しにくいという問題が指摘されている。住み慣れた自宅や介護施設でも、往診や在宅ケアなどを活用すれば入院せずにすむことも多い。 訪問診療の広がりが期待される。
